Social Justice
Fighting for social justice is an integral part of my everyday work.
To me being a rabbi means trying to heal our fractured world one moment at a time. To that end, through the years I have focused on a myriad of different issues: women’s rights, homelessness, immigration, environmental action, and LGBTQ equality. I enjoy volunteering at the food bank and helping out at public schools.
It’s important to me that we are teaching children from a young age that they have a voice and how to use it. Each year I have taken high school-aged students to participate in the Religious Action Center’s L’Taken Seminar in Washington, D.C. The program exposes students to a variety of public policy issues, exploring the Jewish values surrounding these issues and teaching them skills for effective advocacy. At the same time, students meet and mingle with hundreds of Reform Jews from across the United States, all of whom are in D.C. for the same reason—to pursue tikkun olam.
In 2018, I was honored to be a keynote speaker at the Women’s March in Santa Rosa. I continuously work with our Social Action Committee to bring in speakers and programs to further the mission of the synagogue.
